F:  Did you receive the Valley Cruise Press zine? Show me a picture of your favorite page.

L:  Our little brother recently started Valley Cruise Press with a friend of all of ours.  I just received my copy of the latest zine,  Flower Arrangements vol. 1, which is all of Teddy’s art work.  It is gorgeous!  I really love the outside and inside cover as well as this page:

F:  Does it feel like Spring yet there? Have you done anything Spring related?

L:  We had one day that felt like Spring but then it went back down to the 30s.  I don’t think I have done anything Spring related.  Perhaps I’ll go to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens when it gets warmer; I haven’t been in a few years.

F:  I know I always ask this, but what are you reading lately?

L:  I’m in a real reading slump.  It feels like when you know you should get back to working out and still don’t do it.  I need that one book to get me back into the swing.

F:  What is one thing that you have continued to do since completing the Clean Cleanse?

L:  Hmmm…mostly I’d say I continue to think about the cleanse.  I feel much more aware of how it feels to really healthy in my own body.  Actively maintaining that feeling is a whole other topic.

F: Do you have a favorite picture of me and you?

L:  I have lots of pictures of us that I really like but here’s an old one that I think is so sweet.

Just me and my standin’ sticks

L: Mid-March already!  Can you believe it?!

F: Not at all. I will be turning 29 so soon. I told Mom that and she was speechless. She didn’t know how old I was!

L: What is something you’ve learned from being a part of a large family?

F: Something that I’ve learned from being part of a big family is how awesome it is to have so much support. There are so many people in my life who I love and who love me. It is so awesome.

L:  Are you watching any shows regularly right now?

F: Now that True Detective is over and House of Cards is done, not really. Though, Albert and I have been watching An Idiot Abroad and it has been very entertaining. I suggest it.

L:  What is a memorable gift that you’ve received?

F: My 25th birthday present to Paris from my one and only, Albie! Best gift ever!

L: Care to leave us with a song?

I have been pretty quiet lately. When I want to do work, I listen to this:

record

First I tripped, then I dropped it

F: How are you feeling post cleanse?

L: I feel like I’m slowly going back to all my old ways, which is a bummer, but I think about how good I felt on the cleanse pretty much everyday. I’m not eating enough vegetables and I know it.

F: Do you have anything special going on this month?

L: I think I have a pretty exciting trip to South America in the works!

F: Have you been to the New Museum lately? What’s showing?

L: I haven’t – well actually, that’s not true. A few weekends ago I went out to get coffee and ended up wandering around for awhile. I stopped into the New Museum’s book store and hung out there for a bit. It was selling a pair of those kaleidoscope glasses. Have you seen them?

F: Any new all natural products that you are using that I would be interested in?

L: Man, I don’t think so. I still love my Essential Oxygen Brushing Rinse.

F: Do you ever think about teaching yoga again?

L: I do & I think I would like to. It also kind of scares me.

L:  What are the top couple of values that are most important to you?

F: Well, well, well. Aren’t we just getting down to business.

Numero uno: Family/Relationships – That’s kind of all that really matters to me.

Numero dos: Humor/Hilariousness – Nothing is better than being around someone who is easily amused and who is amusing. I just love it.

Numero tres: Being openminded – I know I am only 28 years old, but life is crazy and you never know what’s gonna happen next.

L: What is your favorite dance move?

F:  The Worm, obviously.

L:  Did you watch any of the Olympics?

F: Hell yeah, girl! I watched the louge, skiing and ice skating. It feels important to mention that what I caught, I always happened upon accidentally. AND, I watched The Price of Gold which is a documentary about the Tanya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan controversy. I recommend it.

L:  What website would you say you go to the most these days?

F: I know the in’s and out’s of CleanProgram.com more than I ever thought I would know a website. I know the front end and the back end. It’s just bananas what goes into buying and selling products through a website. Otherwise, I am trying to kick my Facebook habit.

L:  Tell me a memory.

Remember when I first moved to NYC? I was 22 and you were 27. I lived with you for a couple of months while I waitressed and you worked. That was one of my favorite times in my life. Thank you for convincing me to move there.

F: What are you most looking forward to during the Spring?

L: I’m looking forward to not having the weather almost completely dictate all of my outfit choices.

F: Do you have any vacations planned this year?

L: I don’t have anything set but I certainly have some ideas!

F: What is your favorite song lately?

L: I’ve been binging on the song by James Vincent McMorrow that I posted the other day. I’ve also been reacquainting myself with this bad boy, after being reminded of it in the pilot episode of Transparent that you sent me.

F: What is your favorite accessory lately?

L:  Pretty much the only accessories in my life these days:

F: Wanna share a little bit about LaurenFeighan.com?

L: Well, I hadn’t really planned on it but since you’re asking… Our brother David’s unique Christmas gift to each of us this past year was the purchase of our own domain names. I finally started playing around with my site over the weekend, creating a standard Tumblr page at this point. You can check it out here, if that’s of interest to you.

L:  What is something that has inspired you recently?

F: On Monday night, I went to LA Film School’s Q&A with all the writers nominated for this year’s Oscars. I think this was one of the best years in film and I have really come to fall in love with film as a medium (much to Albert’s delight). That night was incredibly inspirational to me because I have so many friends in LA that are writing or trying to make movies. I left that night feeling like we are all headed in the right direction.

L:  What are your favorite pizza toppings?

F: Pizza, Pizza! My favorite pizza toppings are capers, artichoke hearts and mushrooms. Yum!

L:  What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?

F: The best concert that I have ever been to was Arcade Fire at the Larimer Lounge in Denver, Colorado. It was 2005 – almost a heartbeat before they completely and utterly blew up. There were about 60 people at the show and we were essentially in a small basement. The drummer played on the pipes and the guy at the door asked me and my friends if we were the opening band. It was the best concert I have ever been to, hands down.

L:  If we could hang out this weekend, what would you want to do?

F: I don’t even know where to start. If we were in NYC, I would say that we would have to go to L’il Frankies or Sauce. We would have a wonderful meal with some wine. I would love to go dancing at Manhattan Inn until 4am. I would also like to go to MoMA or maybe even stay home at your place the entire weekend and do nothing at all but laugh (or cry).

L:  Have you discovered anywhere new in L.A. lately?

F: I wouldn’t say that I discovered this, but I recently went to the Venice Pier for the first time and I was amazed. I had no idea that LA was in such a bay. When you are at the very tip of the pier, it feels like LA is wrapped around you in the most beautiful way. It was a whole new perspective on the beach that I have spent so much time on.

burning man

Last night I found this picture of me at Burning Man about six years ago. It makes me happy.

F: Today is day 21 of your cleanse. Can you tell me how you feel about the whole process?

L:  I’ve been thinking I’d like to write a post about my whole experience so, yes, but not right now.

F. What kind of music are you listening to this week?

L:  Ugh, I haven’t found my grove yet this week.  These are the songs I was listening to last week though:

F:  What is one thing that is getting you through this winter?

L:  It’s hard to differentiate the cleanse I’ve been doing from this question but, in large part because of it, I have been meditating more, generally going to bed at a decent hour and focusing almost entirely on my health.

F. Do you have a picture assigned to my contact in your phone? If yes, what is it? If no, why not?

L:  I don’t and I’m tempted to say, “Oh, you can do that?!”  I mean, I guess I know you can do that but I’ve never done that, I don’t think.  If I did, I think I’d use this one of you (couldn’t crop Albie out):

F: What was the first picture you took with your new camera?

L: Straight to the selfie & only room for improvement.

My morning commute

My morning commute

L:  What did you have for dinner last night?

F:  Funny you should ask because my dinner last night was fantastic. Albert (Master Chef Silverlake) made me lemon and garlic mahi-mahi, sauteed brussel sprouts in a white wine sauce and a green salad with homemade dressing. The whole meal was phenomenal.

L:  How did you like the Zumba class you went to last week?
F:  Zumba, zumba, zumba. This was my second time around and it was ok. It is a full hour of dancing. It is actually pretty fun, but there is something about me that can’t take it seriously. I want to dance around and do my own moves and laugh. That’s pretty much what I do anyways. We are all going again this week, so I will keep you posted.

L:  What curly hair products are you using lately?
F:  I am still using Deva AnGel. I have never found a product that has made my hair look better. That being said, I would like to change products as this one dries out my hair too much. It was fine in NYC, but in LA the air is so much dryer.

L:  What app on your phone do you use the most?
F:  I am so disgusted by my Instagram habit. I was going to call it an addiction, but that is not what it is. It is simply a habit. A nervous tick. Instagram is my most used and then Waze, which is an app to get you places the fastest way possible. It’s the best in LA.

L:  If you could go to one place for six-weeks, where would you go?
F:  Ah! There is no ONE place. My first instinct is to tell you Hawaii. If it was 6 weeks, I would want to be somewhere where the food is fresh. I would also love to go back to Turkey for a while. Cuba has been my primary focus lately. I will go there.

F: How is your cleanse going?

L:  I think I’m pretty obsessed with the whole thing, to be honest.  I’m on Day 8 of following this cleanse diet for lunch and having Clean smoothies for breakfast and dinner.  Overall, I think it’s going well.  I think about it all day long and am somewhat amazed that I’m really doing it.  I feel good.

F: What have you learned about yourself in the month of January?

L:  I can do it!  Haha.  Kidding.  Kind of.

F: Who is YOUR favorite artist?

L:  Nearly impossible question, I admit.  I’ve always loved this mural by Julie Mehretu that I read about in The New Yorker but I don’t know any of her other work.

F:  What is your preferred form of exercise and are you doing it?

L:  Yoga is the only type of “exercise” I’ve ever done consistently, though not so much recently.  In the last couple of years I’ve realized that I really like hiking but it’s not something I have the opportunity to do very often.

F:  What are you reading? Listening to?

L:  I’m still slowly reading these two books and am now also reading Clean.  I need to commit to one and start wrapping then up.  I haven’t been listening to a ton of music this week though I have listened to the most recent James Blake album a few times.  It’s right for when it’s right.

L:  How is you complaining secession going?

F:  Well, I am going to say it is not going THAT well (that is not a complaint). Mostly because when I complain, I don’t really stop myself. I have become more aware of my complaints and now they feel much more empty.

On another note, Albert and I write one thing that we are grateful for at the end of the day. We plan on doing this until the end of the year. I have to say, it has been kind of a nice thing to do.

L:  Do you have a favorite work of art?

F:  Photography has always been my preferred medium, but there is no one single piece I love the most – though preferably black and white.

L:  Remember when you used to do that dance cardio workout?

F:  Yeah, I sure do! In a way, that dance cardio saved my life. I was so depressed and jobless in NYC for a period of time. Sometimes I would burst into tears while I was working out. I still think that kind of workout shows the best results on my body. Dance cardio is not a thing of the past for me. I will do it again.

L:  Who was your favorite teacher?

F:  Jeez, that one is really hard.  All of the teachers that I thought I hated at the time ended up to be my favorite teachers. Also, I loved Ward Churchill so much at the University of Colorado.

Seems remiss to not say Mom though.

L:  Anything else you’d like to share?

F:  It is pretty awesome that you, Dad and so many other people in my life are doing the Clean Cleanse. It’s just wonderful to me.
