Coast to Coast

yoga-catL:  Animal.

F:  I hate cats with a passion. I also have a deep fear of them.  I also think pictures of cats doing yoga are kind of funny.

L:  Mineral.

F:  I am down with crystals, mostly because Mom uses them at parties and such to show people their energy fields using a pendulum over their palm.

L:  Vegetable.

F. I am so in love with brussel sprouts. I am not sure if I have expressed this on this forum, but I would like to tell you here and now that I am in love with brussel spouts. Who’s with me?!

L:  Motivational.

F:  My teammate (co-worker) was talking to me about your bliss-aplines. Essentially, these are your disciplines that keep you blissful. If they aren’t balanced and prioritized, nothing else is.

L:  Aspirational.

F:  I want to start to have serious and intense yoga practice again. Who’s with me?!

F:  What have you been listening to lately? Will you share it in this post?

L:  I’ve been listening to so much music lately!  A lot of it has been revisiting old music such as the playlist I just made of my Shazam tags.  It’s a kind of hilarious set of songs, I think.

p.s. The Azealia Banks song is super vulgar and the Tweet song is a close second; sorry about that. Also, that Bruno Mars song sounds just like The Police, right?!

F:  Where is one city in the world that you would like to visit in 2014?

L:  I’m trying to plan a Cambodia trip to visit my friend Jo who is currently living there; for some reason I’d really like to go to Laos too but to be perfectly honest, I can’t name a single city there.  Time to do a little research.

F:  Is there any hobby you wish that you had?

L:  I’ve actually been thinking a lot lately about how I’m really in need of a new hobby.  I’ve been trying to think of what it could be and started a post about this very topic last week. I don’t know; I’m still thinking.

F:  What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

L:  Mint chocolate chip

F:  Have you ever baked anything before?

L:  Sure, but it’s been a minute.  I think I’ve made cookies in the time I’ve lived in this apartment so I’d say it’s been about 3-7 years since my last baking.  Also, sometimes at Thanksgiving I’m involved in the apple bread/cake.

L:  Tell me about when it rained in LA this week.

F:  Oh boy! Well let me start this story by letting you know that I have been living in Los Angles for 7 months now. I have never seen it rain. While we were working in our office, we were “alerted” that it was raining. Everyone stood up and stared out the window for a while with smiles on their faces. I felt SO happy. It felt like the first snow on the East Coast.

L:  Do you have any floral clothes?  They’re all the rage for Spring, I hear.

F:  I have one shirt that is floral. I just don’t really dig the floral scene on me. I feel TOO girlie. It’s not for me. I am open to changing my perspective on that though. 😉

L:  What’s your favorite game?

F:  At the moment, beach volleyball. I have fallen in love with the sport. You don’t have to be good. It is a great workout. It is a perfect way to spend time with your friends. You also get to be in the sun.

L:  Do you ever feel lonely?

F:  I feel lonely every once and a while. If anything, I think I should spend more time alone. I am rarely alone. I used to feel really lonely when I lived in NYC. I think being surrounded by all of those people can be a false sense of company.

L:  If you were going to dye your hair, what color would you choose?

F:  Girrrrrl. I would love to dye my hair black. I would just love to see what it felt like and if I liked it. Or, hot pink.

F: What are you most proud of?

L: Sorry to start out sappy but I’m feeling really proud of you lately. It’s really cool to see you doing things you’ve worked so hard for. It’s inspiring and I’m proud of you.

F: What is your morning routine?

L: I just said all this nice stuff and now you’re trying to mess with me?! Most of my mornings begin with me sleeping later than I meant to. I get ready for work and head out of my building, where many mornings I greet the old Chinese lady that lives on the first floor of my building.  She does stretching by the stair well. She doesn’t speak English so mostly we both only say ‘hi’ and ‘bye.’ Sometimes she makes known that she really likes my outfit; that’s awesome. Then I stop for coffee and head to the subway where I either read theSkimm or listen to music/podcast. When I get to work I make oatmeal with delicious accouterment to spice up my life.

F: What book are you currently reading or want to start reading?

L: I’ve read about half of Steinbeck’s Cannery Row about three times. It’s a short book so I don’t know why I can’t get through it. I was recently talking about this and since then have wanted to pick it back up.

F: What was the last thing you cooked and how was it?

L:  I made a pretty good omelet type situation recently.

F: What is your favorite movie?

L:  “The Royal Tenenbaums”

L:  What is a piece of advice you’d give your 10 yr old self?

F:  I would tell her I loved her. I would also let her know that there are some really big changes coming soon. Continue to be yourself and always speak your mind. Don’t be mean to other people to hide your own fears. Try your best to not take on other people’s pain.

L:  What’s your favorite item of jewelry?

L:  What did you have for lunch?
F:  Oh boy! There is a spicy tuna bowl with brown rice, cucumber, ginger and avocado at the co-op across the street from my work. It is so spicy – it is almost unreal. I can’t stop though!

L:  What do you think about mentors?
F:  I appreciate them so much. I just read somewhere that the best way to approach a mentor relationship is with gratitude. There are so many people in my life that have impacted me because they were brave enough to be themselves. Thank you to all of you.

L:  Are we having fun yet?
F:  Well, you and I have not gotten to connect as much as I would like to.  So, you and I aren’t exactly having fun just yet.  The next time we talk I know that we will.  I miss you so much.

F: Do you have any goals that you want to accomplish by the end of the year?

L:  I do but you know that old saying, don’t bite the hand that feeds you…

F: Are you going to keep your bangs?

L:  I think I’m going to keep with them for awhile.  Also the process of growing them out seems rough.  I feel like I’ll break down and cut them many times even when I think I want to grow them out.

F: What is the most fun thing you have done in the past week?

L:  I had a pretty great night last week here:

F: What is your favorite fall activity?

L:  Remember when we got really into Friday Night Lights and played football on my birthday?  Who knew we had it in us but that was some good fall activity.

Sometimes I miss the Taylors.

F: What is your favorite restaurant in NYC?

L:  That’s such a hard question.  Definitely not my favorite restaurant because I care as much, if not more, about atmosphere as I do about the food but I just had phenomenal sushi at this very unassuming place called Hana Sushi in Chelsea.  We’ll go there next time you’re here.

L:  What are your 3 favorite things in your kitchen?

F:  Oh boy, well first and foremost my VitaMix. I would be lost without it.  Secondly, I love my mini-tumblers made by Meghan Lunne.  They are perfect for sippin’.  And last but not least, I love my juicer. It might be getting dusty, but I still love you juicer!

L:  Are you still running a lot? How’s that going?

F:  Albert and I have been running around the Silverlake reservoir once or twice a week.  It is a nice way to spend time together after work. I am getting so much better. I can ALMOST run the 2.2 miles.

L:  What’s something you want to do within the next year?

F:  In the next year, I would like to be more creative and have more creative projects. I’ll let you know how that pans out.

L:  What’s the best/your favorite costume you’ve ever worn?

F:  This was fun:

L:  When are you coming to visit me?

F:  For your birthday?!

I bought something in Chinatown and it was wrapped in this newspaper. I really love this illustration so I framed it and put it on my bookshelf.

F: What is your favorite thing to wear when traveling?

L:  For me it’s all about warmth; it’s terrible when you’re on a train or plane and the air conditioning is too strong.  I like to have a scarf plus long sleeve sweater/jacket so that I can roll one up as a pillow if I want to sleep.

F: Do you still read your horoscope? What are your favorite sites?

L:  I do still read my horoscope but not as religiously as I used to.  My go to sites are still dailyhoroscope.com | horoscope.com | astrologyzone.com

F: If you were to compete in the olympics, what sport would you choose?

L: I think this really says it all.

F: What summertime beauty product do you swear by?

L:  I love eltaMD tinted moisturizer + spf.  I have to get it from my dermatologist but it’s way worth it.

F: Now that it is “Fall” what are you looking forward to this season?

L:  I’m not really accepting that summer is entirely over but there is something about this time of year that makes me kind of excited for layering.

L:  Do you have anything exciting coming up?

F:  I am going to the Dodgers game on Friday with some friends. And I am gonna be like, who is winning the match?!

L:  Who is your celebrity doppelganger?

F:  Girl, I don’t think I have one. Do you? Someone once told me I looked like Joan Osborne and I was like, “Please!”  But really, what if God was one of us?

L:  What is a movie you watch over and over?

F:  I will tell you what, “Old School” is one of my all-time favorite movies. I can watch it so many times. I love when Will Ferrell gets hit in the neck with a tranquilizer. Hilarious!

L:  What are your favorite ways to wear a scarf in your hair?

F:  I like an old fashion bow in the front, just like Rosie the Riveter.

L:  What has been the best part of your day today?

F:  Probably going to Good Morning LA and watching Dr. Junger talk about 3 foods that harm your gut and 3 foods that help your gut.  I went grocery shopping for the segment and helped display the foods. It was fun.

F:  What was the last thing that made you laugh?

L:  A well-timed and unexpected joke about homo erectus.

F:  What is something that you found interesting lately?

L:  It is inaccurate to refer to bocce as bocce ball; it should only be called bocce.  I was corrected in a way that was very reminiscent of a time when I pronounced the word espresso as ex-presso.  Suffice it to say, I won’t make either of these mistakes again.  And so soon after declaring my love for the game…

F:  Have you kept up the yoga after your 30 days?

L:  Not so much but I’m still planning on it.

F:  What is your favorite thing to do on a nice day?

L:  Be outside by or on the water with people I love.

F:  What is your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?

L:  Work on my dance moves! I’m not saying that’s actually true but it gives me an excuse to post this video you sent me the other day. You’re the best.
