With you by my side –

dance parties are way more fun

dinner parties are always better

yoga is more rewarding

saying yes happens more often

sharing is easier

plane rides fly by (I thought you might like that pun)

panic attacks aren’t so bad

stories are more fun to tell

scrabble is more challenging

death beds aren’t so scary

long walks seem too short

milestones are more exciting

Basically – everything is better when you are there. I am so happy you are alive.

Ever since I was little I have loved the moon. I have memories of making the drive from my grandmother’s house and following the moon (or was it following me?) the entire way home. It wasn’t until I was a little bit older that Suz and I made the connection that we both really loved the moon. Ever since then, she and I would call each other every time the moon was particularly charming. She would leave me messages like, “Moon Girl #1, this is Moon Girl #2. You know what that means. Look up tonight.” She was always the first person that I would think of when I looked at the moon. I would wonder if she saw it that night and if she thought of me too. I even made a playlist for her of only songs that mention the moon.

When I first really understood that she was going to die, my first thought was the moon – the fact that we will always have that. I will always have that. In the 2 and a half months since she passed I have seen some of the most spectacular moons of my life. I have also gotten the opportunity to share with other people my love for the moon. In my mind I understand that Suz is not controlling the moon, but in my heart it feels like a communication that we have with each other. There is this feeling that if the moon is still there above me, I will never really be alone.

So to Moon Girl #2 I have seen the moon. I have been looking up – almost every night and when I do I always say, “Hi Suz” as if you are really there in front of me.

EASING into the day after an early morning flight from Cleveland back to NYC.

CHERISHING the outpouring of love, friendship and memories shared at a beautiful memorial service over the weekend for our friend Bethany Cocco.

HYDRATING after a couple of rounds of cocktails last night at the newly opened Spotted Owl, in Tremont, with one of my oldest friends.  The bar was once a bible factory!

I had a conversation last week with a woman who studies feng shui.  We were waiting together at a bus stop and struck up a conversation that started as small talk, then moved on to all sorts of deeper topics.  While we were talking about her study of feng shui, she said something that has really stuck with me.  She said that there needs to be some element of imperfection in a space, otherwise a ‘perfect’ energy will just continue to flow without disruption, thereby becoming boring or stagnant. That was the jist of it anyway, and it makes so much sense to me.  The most compelling art and music always has at least one element that breaks the rules, and the most interesting people and relationships are never completely perfect.  We wouldn’t want them to be.  It isn’t a matter of attaining perfection but rather of creating harmony.

This past week my Mom and I went to a psychic channeling circle. Yep, you read that right!  One of the messages that I got directly was dealing with the feline form. I have had a deep fear of cats ever since I can remember.  I have nightmares involving cats to this very day.  People always ask me why and I really don’t have a good answer.  I don’t remember any terrifying experience with a cat from when I was little.  I have never owned a cat of my own.  It is an unexplainable fear.  Anyways, the psychic mentioned this fear and how I need to explore it a bit.  He also mentioned that the fear of cats comes from the qualities in them that I see in myself.  Normally, I wouldn’t pay as much attention to it except for when I woke up the next day I found that it was National Cat Day!  So, I have made a promise to my mom that I will look into the mythology and mysticism of cats throughout the ages. I am not sure what I will find or if it will alter my life in any way, but as my grandmother says, “why not?!”
