Starting off the week, once again, with a round of pictures courtesy of you guys (and one of my own).  Hope this week brings you all everything you desire.

Every week we pick a word and each do a post based on that word. This week: Play.

Playing in my ears all week has been MTMTMK, the newest album by The Very Best (a Swedish-Malawian duo).  The album is upbeat and danceable.  I hope it sets the tone for an amazing weekend!  Enjoy.

On our trip,  we have had some downtime and have started playing cards.  At first, the only game for two people Albert and I could remember is the game War.  Since then, we have been playing a bit of other random games we remember from being kids.

If anyone knows some good card games for 2, 3 or 4 players, send me a link. We are always eager for more games!

When I went to Montreal over Memorial Day weekend and to Amsterdam last fall, I rented out my apartment on Airbnb.com.  On both trips, my friends and I stayed in Airbnb apartments.  Clearly, I’m a fan.

One of the services offered by the site is to have your home professionally photographed.  So a few weeks ago, a photographer stopped by and snapped a few shots of my apartment.  I just got the pictures back and by way of a little (literally) home tour, I thought I’d invite you in.

Despite always wanting to change certain details, I think the pictures turned out great. Check out the photographer’s professional site here. He’s really talented.

I first discovered Smart People Podcasthosted by Chris Stemp and Jon Rojas when our cousin, Juani, talked about the episode with Brené Brown in her Homie of the Day post back in February.  I have been 100% hooked ever since.

These guys have close to sixty episodes interviewing smart people from all over the map and cover an incredible array of topics in a super friendly and approachable way.  Some of my recent favorites include conversations with nutritionist Debra Benfield on mindful nutrition, historian and author Craig Koslofsky on “the history of the night, and former director of astrophysics at NASA Charles Pellerin on his experiences with the Hubble Space Telescope.

We’re super grateful and excited to share with you today an exclusive interview (download here or listen below) that Chris and Jon conducted for Sister Disco telling us a little about how the podcast came to be and what they’ve learned along the way.  (We’re also cracking up at the shout out on the left white board in this picture.)

Since we’ve been on our trip, Albert has been taking photos of some funny everyday signs that we’ve seen. Take it away, Al…

One thing you’ll notice while traveling is some things are the same wherever you go.  No one is having their mind blown by an ATM – even if it is in Chinese.  But in between all the eerie familiarity there are the little things and it’s usually those little things that bring the biggest laughs.

Burger King?

I often listen to BBC World News in the morning.  Yesterday I heard a piece on a Swiss finishing school that teaches “international protocol and etiquette.”  My ears perked up when I heard mention of etiquette rules for cheese consumption (one of my all-time favorites).

Did you know that hard cheese should not be eaten with bread (and is most appropriately eaten with fork and knife)?  Apparently, if you’re aspiring to international standards, only soft cheese may be eaten on bread – with the exception of mozzarella cheese.  Though considered a soft cheese, mozzarella should also be eaten with knife and fork.

A few years ago I received a lovely set of cheese knives, which came with this handy guide.

A few additional pieces of protocol for you:

Every piece of cheese should include the rind, in order to experience its full flavor.  Lastly, and most important, it is apparently very bad form to ever cut the nose or tip off cheese, as it is considered to be the best part.  Fair enough, I suppose.  However, when it comes to the bread pairings, I’m happy to know the rules but can’t say I’ll be following them!

We’re starting this week off with a special congratulations to our brother, Teddy, and his fiancee, Kelley!  So happy for you guys!!

Rob Staples – Daintree Rainforest, Queensland, Australia

Cut copy concert, Enmore Theatre, Sydney 2011

Julie – Boulder, Colorado
Wildfire.

Juani – New Orleans, Louisiana
Jean Lafitte National Park

Karen – Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Fourth of July rooftop party.

Edward – Columbus, Ohio
Hot damn!

Cat on the loose.

King of the road.

Eye of the tiger.

However you want to say it, this video projection of a tiger running in tandem with the speed of a moving car is the coolest.  See for yourself.

“The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls is by far one of my favorite books that I have ever read. When I saw her second book, “Half Broke Horses”, for sale at the bookstore, I knew I would love it. I was right. There is something about the way the author tells a story that sucks you into her world. This book was written from the point of view of Jeannette’s grandmother. Her life story as a wild woman in the Wild West is, at times, unbelievable. I loved this book and everything that it represents. What can I say, I like the point of view of a wild woman.

‘Ello mates!  Everyone asks me in their emails what the food is like here. In Auckland, there is an impressive variety of mostly Asian cuisine. On this block alone there is Japanese, Korean, Indian, Malaysian, Chinese, etc. We have only eaten in one place that I didn’t think the food was delicious. Just like in most big cities, Auckland and Wellington have tons of different types of restaurants.

Here is an idea of what we ate in New Zealand. Please take into consideration that we are eating on a budget 🙂

Udon Noodles / L&P / Sushi (a mistake) / Lollies / Fish and Chips / Long Black & Flat White / PB & J

My first and only glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc at the top of the Sky Tower in Auckland.

I’m just really getting into this social media thing lately. In addition to my recent membership to and excitement about Instagram, I’m also chirping at the feed over at @Sister_Disco_

(“The Animal Fair” by Alice and Martin Provensen via Brain Pickings – Part 20 )

What can I say, I think these things are so fun.   Some of my favorites:

Tyga @TygaVerified – so, it took me a bit to realize this isn’t the real Tyga

Astrology Zone @astrologyzone – ahhh, Susan, you are amazing!

Erin Haslag @WELLinLA (and Sister Disco homie) – learning so much from this girl about wellness and how to live a more joy filled life!

Mindy Kaling @mindykaling – cracks me up!

Gabrielle Bernstein @GabbyBernstein – truth, always!
