Juan Genovés – Conjetura, 2007

Safe to say I find myself lost on the internet pretty much every day.  Currently, as I write this post I have 17 tabs open in my browser.  I spend a lot of time, on a very regular basis, getting lost in a web of thoughts, searches and entertainment.  I find things I want to explore further (or go back to), abandon the page I’m on and tab to the next.  Yet when Farrell asked me to name something fun I’d found on the internet last week, I could not think of anything!  Actually, it was only in my attempt to think of/find something that I came across the Humans of New York post I ended up using.  I’m really realizing how unfocused and unproductive this time is, to say nothing of the fact that just this morning I was reading about how the content we consume each day imprints itself onto our subconscious.  So, I am working on approaching the internet with purpose & sharpening my focus.  Setting tasks and sticking to them!

What a wonderful weekend in New York!  Nice weather makes such a difference in my mood and we’re finally warming up over here.  Life is good!

Albert’s parents were in town and we all packed in the little green Jeep. It was fun!

I took ballet for a long time when I was young. I remember the feel of point shoes on my feet, the strength and wear needed to make them arch and the extra height they give.  It always amazed me that actual ballerinas would wear fully through a pair of point shoes in one evening’s performance.  This video goes into the custom making of point shoes for professional dancers.  Soft pink statin elongating perfectly toned legs of a ballerina simply creates such an stunning and elegant visual.

Every summer when I was little, we went to America’s best rollercoaster theme park, Cedar Point. Since this week has felt so much like the summers in the Mid-West, I have been thinking about sweet, sweet Cedar Point. Just look at that image. Rollercoaster’s on the water?! Heck yeah!

My brother gifted Albert and I with an 8×5 mirror for our apartment. It is a beautiful handmade mirror that takes up a lot of space. It is quite the design statement. Since we got the mirror, I have been looking at pictures on Pinterest to get some ideas on how to work a large mirror into a space. Here are some of my favorites:

Rainy day

F: What is something fun you have found on the internet this week?

F: What are your weekend plans?

L: A friend’s send-off party & meeting two-week old, Miles!

F: I know I ask this all the time, but any new Spring trends you are seeing on the street?

L: Ah the last couple of days have been so nasty I can barely think of anything.  It’s mostly a cold, wet look around here.

F: What is something you have never done in New York City?

L: I have never been to the Statue of Liberty or to the top of the Empire State Building.

F: If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive tonight, who would it be?

L: Conor Murphy

It is 90 degrees in Santa Monica today. This whole week is expected to be like this. I have an appreciation for California living today. It is so beautiful here and relaxed. I am just loving it. Mom, I still love Cleveland, don’t worry.

Here are some pictures I’ve taken throughout the year we have lived here.

On the way to work.

I’m not usually much of a napper but I slept more this weekend than I have in a very, very long time. I’m hoping the pay-off is super human strength all week long (and to you as well!).

I’m not a regular listener of Radiolab but I do tune in from time to time – and I have to give it to them, the information that is presented usually ranges from interesting to mind blowing.  Yesterday I listened to the recent episode Placebo and found it fascinating.  A lot of the new research on the placebo effect relates back this post (i.e. you are what you think) I wrote last week.  In one part of the episode they talk about how a mother kissing a child’s boo boo to “make it all better” is actually a type of placebo.  I’d highly recommend the episode.  It still has me thinking!

I forgot how awesome my friends are. Every time we hang out, there is a lot of music that is played. These songs have stuck with me since this past weekend and I just can’t quit them.

L: What’s your go-to outfit these days?

F: I believe that I have shared them before on this here ol’ blog, but my overalls. When I don’t feel 100% I throw on my overalls. I pick myself up by the straps and approach the world. They are my favorite new item of clothing.

L:  How do you feel about 3-D movies?

F: Yeah, they are ok. Are there any news ones out? I loved Avatar – mostly the story. “I see you.”

L: Are you afraid of growing old?

F:  I am not afraid of getting old, but I am afraid to be old.

L:  What’s so funny ’bout peace, love and understanding?

F: I was never under the impression that it was funny. Maybe this is a lyric from a song or some famous poem, but it went over my head.

Peace, love and understanding is where it’s at!

L: What word would you like to do for the next One Word, Two Ways post?

F:  Spark? Texture? Surface? Space?
