Love is Telepathic

I haven’t been back to the city since I moved to Los Angeles. It has been about 2 and a half years. How is it possible it has been that long? I have no clue. But I gotta say, It feels good to be back! When we left the city I was done. I was feeling anxious all the time and strapped for cash at every turn. I hit a wall and couldn’t take another day here. So when I arrived I was expecting chaos. I was gearing up for fast walking and rude people. That is not the New York I came back to. Maybe it is just that I am in a calmer place or that the city really is much quieter. It is great here. It is not TOO crowded or crazy. It is just a bunch of people living their lives in the same place. It is really fun to be back here and I really missed it.

1.) The Hipster is Dead (via Mashable) This article is funny but true. It really stops to make you think, “Am I one of these people?” –Farrell

3.) Resolving to Create a New You (via The New York Times) This article is like listening to a rant/speech from a best friend that you walk away from and feel like you really want to do the things you committed to do. –Farrell

4.) The Hipster is Dead (via Mashable)  This one ended up on both of our lists this week.  Like sister, like sister?!  -Lauren

When I was at my team retreat in Nicaragua, I experienced my first Yin Yoga class. I used to be a hardcore yogi. I went to class 6 days a week and was doing all kinds of crazy things with my body. After a while the practice became a little too reflective for me during a time when I think I needed more movement and excitement in my life. So, I stopped yoga. Since April though, I have had the pull to slowly get back to my practice. I knew I didn’t want to go back to vinyasa. There was something about it that kind of practice that just didn’t feel right. That is where yin yoga has come into play. Every Tuesday night I feel so excited to go to my yin yoga class at 8:30pm. It is a long and slow class with deep stretches and it’s really challenging despite the sleepy vibes. It has really been a wonderful change in my life and a much needed time to refocus, calm down and put the phone away. If there is one in your area, I highly recommend it. Nasmaste.

I am not sure if it is the full moon or what but I have been on the verge of feeling really burnt out. I have felt this way before and this time I am vowing to stop it before it starts. After reading articles like this one and this one I have really come to realize how important it is to stop it before it gets any worse. I can tell that I am not fully there yet, but I know if I take the right steps I will be on my way to enjoying the summer with relaxed vibes. So I am pledging to:

Drink more water

Reminding myself that it doesn’t matter if anything is perfect

Don’t stress myself out over silly things

Spend more time near the water

Use technology less

Meditate in the AM

Wind down before bed

Take B12

Eat more snacks

I will be checking in with you again about this and hope I am just full of energy and looking back on this post with relief. Here is hoping!

1.) Is Depression A Disease or Symptom of Inflammation (via Chris Kresser) A really interesting and fascinating read on the role that inflammation plays on our mood and symptoms of depression. –Farrell

2.) It’s “Meditation Summer” on Governors Island (via WellandGoodNYC) I’m still working out the rest of my summer schedule but I’d love to make it to one of these guided mediations on Governors Island.  -Lauren

3.) 9 Things You Need to Stop Doing if Your Want to Be Successful (via LifeHack) Even though the title doesn’t completely grab me, since I think every one of you is already successful just by being YOU, this list in interesting and brings up some great points. –Farrell

4.) Let’s Celebrate the Art of Clutter (via NYTimes) I am still slowly making my way through the Kondo book on tidiness; this article makes some solid counter points.  As in most things, I guess moderation is key.  -Lauren

5.) L.A. Frock Stars (via Smithsonian Channel) is a fun & informative reality show about a vintage store in Los Angeles and the team who runs it.  Plus the name is genius.  -Lauren

L:  Do you like to hold on to books you’ve read or get rid of them when you’re done?

F: You know me, I like to get rid of things. I enjoy them and then I pass them on. If I really like the book or it is a classic I will keep it. Otherwise, I like to share it with my friends.

L:  What is your favorite/can’t live without product these days?

F: Coconut water. I have been crazy about it lately. I can’t get enough. In terms of beauty products, I have been using Odacite cleanser and I love it. Even though it has been proven that I CAN live without it, the Problem Solver is deeply missed around these parts.

L:  Do you have any styles that you just love regardless of whether they’re fashionable in the moment?

F: Flared jeans are something I will always love. I have just fallen in love with anything white and all white outfits. They are awesome!

L:  Have you been watching the Cavs?

F: I happened to be having drinks with friends on Sunday and the Cavs game was on. At first I didn’t care until the end where I was sweating and imagining every single person I know in Cleveland in front of their TVs; good thing they won!

L:  What are you up to this weekend?

F: One of our friends asked Albert to help film his Kickstarter video so I will be helping with that on Saturday. The weather is getting nicer so more beach days are in order.
