I travelled today and let me tell you – the vibes at the airport are no bueno. After almost being bumped off my flight from LAX to Cleveland, I was rushed aboard right as the plane was backing out of the gate.

Here are the things that kept me afloat:

CV Skinlabs – Calming Moisture

I used this so many times while I was in the air. It is the best lotion because it is not too thick.

Host Defense – Immune Support Mycoshield Spray

I will not get sick this winter and here is why:

FPI-05781-3

Anne Marie Gianni – Herbal Facial Oil

This facial oil is perfect for the winter time and extremely dry climates. My face soaks up the moisture.

The Ginger People – Ginger Chews

If my stomach feels off, I pop a couple of these babies and I am set straight.

Birthday celebration!

IMG_0903

There was a split second in time this year that I felt like everything was just right. I remember feeling so grateful that everything in my life was great. I loved my job for the first time in my life, I was making new friends, the sun was shining, all of the people I loved were healthy or on their way to greater health, I loved my boyfriend more and more each day. It all felt, well, perfect. And in the moment, I relished in it.

I knew it was only a matter of time until we would need to fix the car or I would face another obstacle. And of course those things did happen.

Over these past couple of months, I have felt some extreme highs and some disappointing lows. The high times felt like a buzzing energy that was almost, at times, too much. The low times have been a subtle sadness and more just a bummer than anything else.

I am telling you this because in this moment (who knows if it will last), all of those highs and lows feel like perfection too. As my mom reminded me, everything is always coming back to balance. I think the key thing for me is to remind myself during low times, and even high ones, that everything will balance itself out in the end.

So, I am relishing in that realization for the time being.

L:  What’s your favorite tradition?

F: If you mean any tradition in the entire world, I don’t think I could narrow it down. Since it is the Christmas holiday, I will stick with those traditions. I still like our family’s Christmas morning tradition. It is the most relaxed that we get to be the entire holiday season. It is the best!

L:  What’s your favorite Christmas movie?
home-alone

F: My first instinct it to say Bad Santa, but that’s not right. That movie is funny, but it is too depressing! I really love Home Alone. Best Christmas movie ever.

L:  Do you have a tasty go-to snack?

F: Everyone at my office has been snacking on popcorn. It is kind of the best snack if you think about it. For one thing, it is healthy. Another great thing is that you can make it taste any flavor you want. Peeps at my office do turmeric and dill. Two things that I loved and would have never thought to mix.

L:  If you were to pick one post to give someone a sense of Sister Disco, what would it be?

F: Well shoot. That is a tricky tricky. I think any of our One Word, Two Ways posts would do it. Those posts show what it’s all about: both of our perspectives in the world.

L:  Who is someone that you’re inspired by?
F. I have always looked up to Mom. As the years go on though, I look up to her much more. I recently watched the documentary I Am. It is a simple but inspiring movie about the interconnectedness between all life. It discusses a lot of wonderful ideas about the world. I couldn’t help but feel grateful to Mom, because she already exposed me to these ideas and they are already a part of me. I know I don’t always show it, Mom, but you really do inspire me.

Hi party people in the house! This weekend was awesome because it was our little brother Teddy’s birthday. He is the best and I loved celebrating with him! Our cousin Reed flew out for the occasion and wanted to share his pictures from the weekend. Thanks for contributing Reedy!

I have really enjoyed a lot of things this week and thought I would share some of the things that brought me wonder, joy and excitement.

First and foremost, these girls are hilarious. I watched some of their webisodes and could totally relate to almost all of them.

At the beginning of every month, I try to check my Susan Miller horoscope. If you are into horoscopes and have never read hers, you are in for a great treat.

I just got back from an “urban sweat lodge” called Shape House and feel so relaxed and ready for bed. If you live in the Los Angeles area, try it out. It is amazing.

One of my favorite Functional Medicine practitioners, Dr. Frank Lipman was featured in the New York Times this week. Check it out here.

It was through that article that I realized that he has a TedTalk. He is from South Africa and has such an amazing story. You will love him.

I had a fantastic week with my family in California and feel so grateful for them all. On the topic of family, I saw this TED Talk today and it left an impact on me. As someone who can’t wait to be a mother, I found this talk so insightful, powerful and inspiring.  Clinical psychologist Dr. Shepali Tsabary spoke so eloquently about the relationship between child and parent and how imperative it is.

I appreciate that my own parents did the best they could in the moment and rarely projected their expectations of themselves on us.

L:  Have you read anything good lately?

F: I have been so excited to share about the new book that I am reading. I will eventually dedicate a whole post to it because I am learning so much. It is called Woman Code by Alisa Vitta. This book goes deeper into balancing your hormones and maintaining optimal health. Here is one thing I have learned since reading: women who wear makeup absorbs up to 5 pounds of chemicals a year.

L:  How do you feel about the approaching holiday season?

F: I hate to say this, but the holidays kind of stress me out.  Well, I wouldn’t say stress exactly, overwhelm might be a better word. Christmas is really my favorite holiday because it is always awesome, however the planning that leads up to that day can be a bit much for me.

L:  Want to draw picture of something, take a picture of it and show us?

F: Not really, no. Thanks for offering though.

L:  Name one thing you love about L.A., Cleveland and NYC:

F:  Los Angeles: The bright sunshine
New York City: The energy
Cleveland: The lake

L:  What music are you listening to these days?

F:  I have been listening to these songs on repeat:
I’ve been in a weird mood.

At work, we talk about the gut a lot. I mean, a lot. Lately there have been some really interesting resources about gut health and how to approach it. I thought I would share some of my favorite resources with those who are interested (I hope you are because it is so important and so fascinating!).

NPR recently did a story called: Gut Bacteria Might Guide The Workings Of Our Minds. It addresses how bacteria in our bodies could effect our brains. What they found out about probiotics and anxiety is really cool!

I have been listening to the Gluten Summit on my way home from work and I am loving it. One fact that has stuck with me from Mark Hyman’s talk was that eating two slices of whole wheat bread increases your blood sugar more than 2 tablespoons of sugar.

This article discusses that if pregnant mothers are stressed, it could effect their baby’s gut and brain health.

I know this one is crazy and maybe taking it too far for some of you. I will just say two words and you can click on the link or not: Poop Pills.
