With you by my side –

dance parties are way more fun

dinner parties are always better

yoga is more rewarding

saying yes happens more often

sharing is easier

plane rides fly by (I thought you might like that pun)

panic attacks aren’t so bad

stories are more fun to tell

scrabble is more challenging

death beds aren’t so scary

long walks seem too short

milestones are more exciting

Basically – everything is better when you are there. I am so happy you are alive.

Ever since I was little I have loved the moon. I have memories of making the drive from my grandmother’s house and following the moon (or was it following me?) the entire way home. It wasn’t until I was a little bit older that Suz and I made the connection that we both really loved the moon. Ever since then, she and I would call each other every time the moon was particularly charming. She would leave me messages like, “Moon Girl #1, this is Moon Girl #2. You know what that means. Look up tonight.” She was always the first person that I would think of when I looked at the moon. I would wonder if she saw it that night and if she thought of me too. I even made a playlist for her of only songs that mention the moon.

When I first really understood that she was going to die, my first thought was the moon – the fact that we will always have that. I will always have that. In the 2 and a half months since she passed I have seen some of the most spectacular moons of my life. I have also gotten the opportunity to share with other people my love for the moon. In my mind I understand that Suz is not controlling the moon, but in my heart it feels like a communication that we have with each other. There is this feeling that if the moon is still there above me, I will never really be alone.

So to Moon Girl #2 I have seen the moon. I have been looking up – almost every night and when I do I always say, “Hi Suz” as if you are really there in front of me.

L:  What is a skill or talent you’d like to develop?

F:  I would love to be an amazing singer.  I love to sing – mostly in the shower.  I have always wanted to take voice lessons.

L:  What has been the highlight of your week, thus far?

F:  Oh the highlight of my week?  My friend Alison put together a clothing swap on Tuesday night.  I have never been to one and thought it was a great idea.  The best part for me was seeing items that I thought were a good fit for my friends.  I left with a New Year’s Eve option!

L:  What item in your closet is getting the most play these days?

F:  I think my cheetah flats and tan sweater from Cotton Inc.  That place is a steal!  Have you ever been?  So many basic pieces that are made well and are affordable.  It is also 79 degrees as I type this.

L:  Are you afraid of growing old?

F:  Mostly, no.  It seems like a silly thing to feel upset about because it is going to happen whether you like it or not.  I don’t want to be really old, but I am ok with getting gradually older.

L:  What should I make for dinner?

F:  Have you ever made stew before? I think you would be very happy if you make a stew, chili or soup.  However, if you will be headed back to the city tomorrow and are just doing a one time meal, then I recommend Mediterranean Noodles.  It is so simple, filling and fresh.

Our Mom came out to LA last week and we had so much fun!  Once she arrived, we had a delicious homemade meal at our house.  Then we spent the weekend in San Diego and saw two Monster Rally shows.  We had more good meals, spent time together in Atwater Village and topped it all off with a psychic reading!  Thanks for coming, Mama.

LEARNING  how not to attach myself to any outcomes and keep my heart open to all possibilities.

READING Lena Dunham’s book, Not That Kind of Girl, and feeling entertained by it.

TRYING new styles and feeling more myself and grown up because of it.

APPRECIATING this unique period of time that I’m currently living.

REMEMBERING Tom Magliozzi of NPR’s, “Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers.”  This show reminds me of being young on Saturday mornings in the car with our mom.

This past week my Mom and I went to a psychic channeling circle. Yep, you read that right!  One of the messages that I got directly was dealing with the feline form. I have had a deep fear of cats ever since I can remember.  I have nightmares involving cats to this very day.  People always ask me why and I really don’t have a good answer.  I don’t remember any terrifying experience with a cat from when I was little.  I have never owned a cat of my own.  It is an unexplainable fear.  Anyways, the psychic mentioned this fear and how I need to explore it a bit.  He also mentioned that the fear of cats comes from the qualities in them that I see in myself.  Normally, I wouldn’t pay as much attention to it except for when I woke up the next day I found that it was National Cat Day!  So, I have made a promise to my mom that I will look into the mythology and mysticism of cats throughout the ages. I am not sure what I will find or if it will alter my life in any way, but as my grandmother says, “why not?!”

L:  What are you thinking in terms of Halloween costumes this year?

F: You know how much us Feighan’s love Halloween! Well first thing’s first, we are having a Halloween Party. Albert is pretty excited as he wants to have a candy eating contest. He is having a hard time finding any takers. As far as costumes, I like to keep it a surprise.

L:  If you could make one change/enhancement to your apartment, what would it be?

F: Make everything white!!

L:  How’s the surf lately?

F: I haven’t gotten up on the board in a very long time. By the end of the day (when we surf) I feel tired and just like laying on my board in the water.

L:  What comedian are you most into these days?

F: I am so into Kristin Wig. She is my most favorite.

L:  If we were going to fly and meet somewhere this weekend, where would you want to go?

F: Hawaii or Iceland. Or I would be happy just to see you coming down your building’s stairs in NYC while I waited for you to let me in.
