selflove

I have been thinking a lot about women and their bodies this week. It first started with me and my own body and then trickled down to my friends, my mother and then the world.

Why is it that women are so hard on themselves and their bodies?

I can honestly say that this has been my life’s struggle to not only love my body, but really just to accept it.

As I was talking to my friends the other day, we all acknowledged that we have tried extreme diets to either gain or loose weight, and still never felt whole.

What happened to us along the way that we believe that we are not good enough?

More importantly, what is the answer?

I don’t know the answer, but I do know that it starts with talking about it.

The more I talk about it with my friends and family, the more I realize that I am not feeling anything different than any other woman. That is comforting, but also alarming.

I would love to hear anyone’s thoughts on practicing self love and acceptance.

You are beautiful.

Have you guys seen SNL recently? If not, then you have missed this hilarious video:

Since it’s a shorter week because of the holiday, I thought I would keep this post light and fun.

Cheers to waiting until the bass drops and our heads explode!

We hope everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend!

When I was traveling, I used to do noteworthy posts every now and then. After we dropped my friends off at the airport, I made some quick notes in my phone so I wouldn’t forget the feeling of them being here. Here is what I wrote:

Always keep your heart open.

Don’t try and control situations.

Find the fun in everything.

Being appreciative and grateful goes a really long way.

You are never too old to travel.

Adventures can happen in your own backyard.

Living in southern California is awesome and sometimes you forget it.

Maintaining friendships take work and sometimes you just gotta go visit people.

L: I miss you!

F: I miss you too. So much. Every day. All the time. I loved having you in my every day life. It seems like it flew by, doesn’t it?

L: What did you have for lunch today?

F: Today I had a salad with olives, onions, chickpeas and avocado. It is what I usually have every day.

L: What’s your favorite show tune?

F: Oh, girl! No you didn’t! That is an impossible question to answer.  While I sing this one a lot:

the first show tune I ever truly loved is:

L: You’re always playing beach volleyball. Are you pretty good?

F: I would say, for me, beach volleyball is something I am pretty good at. When I compare myself to others (never good), I know I could use some practice. Once I can spike and set the ball – which is all volleyball is about – then I will be better.

L: Are you doing anything special or Memorial Day weekend?

F. Yes! Amy (Albert’s sister and my lovely friend) is coming for the weekend. We will hike, beach it and take many pictures. It’s going to be great. She always cracks me up.

It’s that moment we have all been waiting for! Another Monster Rally EP is out. In my opinion, EPs are the best because you catch a glimpse of a period of a time in an artist’s life. It is clear that Monster Rally is evolving and we love it! Keep it coming, Teds.

For the full EP, listen here.

Happy Friday!

I never posted any of the pictures I took when two of my lovely friends married each other in a barn in Evergreen, Colorado.  Though in all honesty, I didn’t take as many as I usually do.  The day after the wedding, some friends and the bride and groom headed to Vail. Here are some of my favorites:

There are endless reasons why I love my mother. My love I have for her has grown more and more over the years and I imagine that it will continue on that way. My mom has been through a lot. A lot of wonderful experiences and a couple hard ones. I never realized until I was older that she was trying with all her might to show up for the hard times with love. She was and is determined to see the reasons and lessons behind every struggle. And to see that in action as I have gone from child, teenager and now as a woman is miraculous. Sure, she is coming in a week and she drives me bananas, but she really finds meaning in life. I now value that same thing.

As I was getting ready for a party that I had at my place last night, I was thinking about my mom. Although she swears hosting was passed down through my dad’s side of the family, it’s not true. My mom is the queen of throwing things together. In turn, I love to bring people together. I wish I could say that I throw things together, but I am more of a planner. That is besides the point. The point is: the most important thing my mother could have passed down was bring people you love together. It’s those times that last with you for weeks after. It makes life fun. It’s good to connect.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom. You are pretty great.
