(Avec mon nouveau sac, ma bague et mon bracelet (With my new bag, my ring and my bracelet) by Malick Sidibé via here)

We’ve got a crazy kick ass playlist for you today courtesy of New York based DJ/producer/songwriter, Robzilla.

Robzilla recently produced the single World Keeps Spinning on Dutty Artz with vocals by longtime Brooklyn dancehall artist Jahdan Blakkamoore.  Keep your eyes out for the upcoming video and pay special attention to the remix on the playlist below.

Have a fantastic weekend and keep up with Robzilla online, through Soundcloud and Facebook.

I got back to New York (and an apartment with power!) on Tuesday after a fabulous trip with our dad to Turkey, and a short stop in Paris. It was so wonderful to see Farrell and Albert, and we had such a great time! We’ll tell you about our trip over the next couple of days but we didn’t want to wait to turn you onto Monster Rally & RUMTUM’s recently released second collaborative EP, Coasting. I absolutely love this album and it has been the perfect soundtrack for re-entry into real life, while maintaining a vacation vibe.

A limited number of etched vinyl records, designed by our brother Teddy (Monster Rally), are available for purchase from Gold Robot Records.  We are once again enamored with his work!

Check it!

In honor of her bırthday, I asked some of Laurens (thıs Turkısh computer ıs dıfferent) frıends to send me a song that remınded them of her. Here are some of the best:

I Saw The Sıgn – Ace of Base

Saved By The Bell Theme Song
All of the Lıghts – Kanye (feat. Rıhanna)
Your Song – Elton John
Go Outsıde – Cults
Dont Fence Me In – Bıng Crosby

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Late last week Dummy Magazine premiered this fabulous music video by our good friend Geoff Feinberg for Monster Rally’s Forager/Jungle Nights.  We are especially excited about this collaboration as it showcases incredibly sharp and intriguing footage that Geoff captured of the New York arm wrestling world (who even knew there was one?!) set to the sounds of two songs off our little brother’s latest LP Beyond the Sea.

Monster Rally – Forager/Jungle Nights from weathered features on Vimeo.

Geoff tells Dummy Mag, This video came about almost coincidentally – I have been making a documentary (which I’m editing now) on a guy who happens to be a part of the whole arm wrestling scene over here in NYC, which has a small but loyal following. This guy hosts a weekly arm wrestling practice in the basement of his place in Queens, which he has been been doing for the past 15 years, so its a bit of an institution. There’s an open door policy, anybody from old timers to newbies show up and there are a lot of characters that end up coming through – great faces! While the doc I had been making is not really about arm wrestling, it plays a part. So, I had been filming a bunch of these practices and getting a load of footage, way more than I needed, but I couldn’t stop myself. It seemed pretty ripe for a music video (I really like documentary music videos and have had it in the back of my mind to do one for a while now).”

The latter part of the music video features the female champion of the Empire State Golden Arm Tournament, Joyce Boone.  Geoff goes on to say he, “liked the idea of doing a slightly more gritty music video, using heavier tracks [off Beyond the Sea]. I thought it would make a nice contrast – luckily Ted [Monster Rally] was totally open to this…I wanted everything to start off being super masculine and then subvert this towards at the end of the video where we see the women step up and have these intense arm wrestle battles.

We love it!  Read the complete interview with Geoff here.

I desperately miss New York.  I can’t believe I am saying this, as I spent the last year cursing all the things I hated about it.  I think most of that was to psych myself up to leave that grand city.  New York was my home – the place where my lovely bedroom was and all my wonderful friends are.  Sure, I didn’t see them as often as I wish; that’s the way the city life goes.  Sometimes months would pass without a word from a friend.  It’s a wonder that you actually make real friends in NYC, given how fast time flies in that wonderful city.

Mostly, I miss dancing with my friends. I am talking about sweaty, five hour dance sessions in pitch black rooms filled with people letting loose. I have flashes in my mind of certain songs that just brought it out of us some nights.

Here are some songs I hear in my mind when I think about those sweet, sweet New York nights. The kind of nights you sometimes need so badly you can feel it in your bones.

Sometimes a good playlist elicits that “I really needed this” feeling.   And that’s just what I got after my first listen to the summersister mix that our good friend Karen put together for us.  A little bit dancey, a little bit makeout with flavors of soul, garage and surf.  How could you not love it?
