It’s Friday!  The weekend in a mere hours away and I’m ready to resume a life of leisure.  It’s been a minute since we’ve played a little music over here and I thought it high time to get back to some sounds.  Hope you’re picking up what I’m throwing down.  Tootles.

F:  This is your birthday week, what are your plans?!

L:  Well, first off, thank you so much for yesterday’s post – and thank you to everyone who wrote such nice things!!  I feel so lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life and I hope that each of you feels as loved as you all made me feel yesterday.  As for plans, Dad was in town over the weekend, I had a wonderful birthday dinner earlier in the week and saw some friends last night.  Mom’s coming into town tonight.  It’s been a pretty fabulous week!

F:  What is your most memorable birthday?

L:  This one, I suppose, because I haven’t yet put it in the past!  Last year’s birthday was pretty cool too.  I woke up in Paris (after having met up with you guys in Turkey!) and flew back to NYC on my birthday.  I didn’t tell anyone I was coming back into town, took the book I was reading at the time (Shantaram) to sit at the bar of one of my favorite restaurants, ate delicious food, drank prosecco and was in bed by about 7 p.m.  It was great!

F:  If you had 3 months off with no housing commitments, etc., where would you go and what would you do?

L:  Three months feels short for the purpose of this question, so I’m going to take a year.  I would spend the first three months in southeast Asia visiting Jo.  Then I would come back and hang out in New York for the next three months (I hope to god these are warm months!).  Then maybe I’d drive cross country and hang out with you guys on the west coast for as long as I wanted before deciding on my next destination.

F:  Do you have any resolutions for your next year?

L:  I want to get more back to yoga & stay focused on prioritizing the things I most value.

F:  Can we see a picture from your birthday?

L:  How about three?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAUREN!

lauren_00001

When I asked Lauren’s friends and family what they loved about her, here is what they had to say:

Her maturity and shyness

She is the one person in my life who will accept me for whatever I am, that puts no pressure on me, and trusts me. She is so calming. Also, awkward but awesome.

Her sense of right and wrong and her practice

Her sweetness

Her self assuredness. And her empathy for almost anyone else’s struggles in life.

Her grace

Her ability to make anyone feel comfortable. And also, she shows up. She’s one of the most loyal people I know.

Her sense of humor (so many people’s response)

Her smile

Her spirit

Her sense of adventure

Her willingness to be spontaneous

Her kind and sensitive and caring soul

Her ability to kindly and gently offer another perspective that I might not always be open to

Her ever and continued presence in my life

Her love of kids

I love when she has a straight face and then thinks something is funny and gets the cutest inside joke smile. Also, watch out for her puns. She will slay you!

Her style

Her HIGH-LARIOUS sense of humor

and quite simply, her.

I love that she always has a great story to tell.

I love her always calm demeanor, can do attitude and kind heart.

She’s secretly the biggest badass I know. She’s not afraid to put herself out there. Her adventurous spirit, her accepting and loyal friendship, her ridiculously amazing and often self deprecating sense of humor, her imitation-worthy fashion sense. Her drive to constantly live a better, more wholesome life.  She is an everyday inspiration on how I can live my own life more fully.

I love how beautiful she is.

How inspiring she is.

Her spontaneity, deep thinking and unique and awesome sense of humor. Her sense of style is also enviable.

Her ability to meet anyone and get to know them without judgement

That she is the best listener I’ve ever met and always gives thoughtful responses, even to the most self-indulgent comments/questions!

That she is a smartass, like me!

Her wicked sense of humor- especially expressed while on the dance floor 🙂

Happy Birthday, Lauren. I couldn’t have dreamt of a better sister.

Farrell’s Noteworthy posts are always some of my favorites to read. Today I was looking for something on my phone and came upon the following note I wrote a couple of months ago (absent two exclamation points I feel reveal more than I’m really comfortable with here – a fine and crazy line, I know!). It’s always a funny thing to look back on your own notes; I’m often really surprised that I wrote them myself.

Hey homies! Here are this weeks pictures:

Farrell – Los Angeles, CA

I wouldn’t call this weekend completely melancholy, however I might describe it as reflective. There were some ups and downs and I spent a lot of time by myself. Here are some of my favorite moments:

Lauren – New York, NY

It’s feeling cold and dark in NYC these days – not exactly my favorite transition but knowing a Thanksgiving California trip is in my near future is a definite plus.

I am spending the day and night with this guy today. Spending time with him feels like exactly what I need. No one else could do.

L:  What’s your favorite item in your purse?

F: That is a hard question to answer but I would say, currently, it is Tata Harper’s Nutrient Complex. I apply it a couple times a day to my face and it really hydrates my situation. I recommend her line to everyone!

L:  What are your thoughts about vegetarianism these days?

F: I look back on my 10 years of vegetarianism and 3 years of veganism and I feel like I could have done so much better. Vegetarianism is a journey, as anything is. I wouldn’t recommend it to just anyone. If you want to eliminate meat, do your research and make a plan. I still stand by a whole foods diet, whether meat is involved or not.

L:  What are some random photos you have on your phone?

L:  Have you seen any good movies lately?

F: I watched “The Kids Are All Right and it was so good. That movie is done so well. I loved the acting, the naturalness, the awkwardness and the dialogue. I enjoyed every minute.

L:  Anything else on your mind?

F: I got 12 hours of sleep last night and I am wondering if its possible to get too much sleep. When I sleep like that, I wake up with a mild headache and today I don’t feel 100%. I feel foggy headed and tired. What’s up with that?

Over the weekend I took a much desired trip out of the city to Storm King Art Center.  I’d been wanting to check out this 500-acre sculpture park in the Hudson Valley for some time and was really psyched to finally get up there.

Storm King did not disappoint, nor did all of the autumnal colors.  It is a stunning place and was such a nice day, complete with a little panorama play at the end:
