I feel like I am always trying to do be better so creating New Year’s resolutions seems kind of silly to me. However, I do find that they re-inspire people and really do create some changes. At least it gets people talking about being and doing different things.

On a whim today, I decided to do 21 days of no complaining. It is not that I feel I complain a lot, but since I started this thing today I realized that maybe we all kind of do. There are certain relationships that I have that are almost solely based on complaining. Isn’t that crazy?! What are we getting out of these negative conversations?

Anyways, for the next 21 days I am going to focus on what is good and try and become more aware of why I complain.

I am following this program here if anyone wants to join with me. I will try and keep you wonderful people updated as I go because life is great, isn’t it?

Hey everyone! Lauren is in Thailand soaking up the sun and mango sticky rice, so this week’s pics will be all mine. I haven’t had a very interesting week as I have been sick since Tuesday but here goes:

I recently started reading “The Gift: Creativity and the Artist in the Modern World.”  The first part of the book focuses on the theory of gifts and goes into a lot of gift giving practices of various ancient tribal cultures.  I’m only just starting to wrap my head around some of the ideas being presented and thought this concept (and implicit nod to imbalance) was pretty interesting: “Partners in barter talk and talk until they strike a balance, but the gift is given in silence.”

Duality

There can be no good without evil,
So that, we say, is that.
Does it follow that there
Can be no evil without
Good?
No sadness without happiness;
No hate without love;
No dark without light;
No despair without hope;
No wrong without right;
No yin without yang?
Must we forgo positives
To extinguish all negatives?
To do without effort;
To want without attachment.
To live without dying?

L: Do you have anything exciting coming up?

F: I have a busy January with work. People love to cleanse in January. In a way, that is exciting.

L: What’s your favorite outdoor sport?

F: Beach volleyball baby!

L: What’s something you learned over the holiday season?

F: Never underestimate getting enough sleep.

Also, people change. They really do. It is never too late.

L:  If you could be an amazingly talented dancer, singer or musician,
which would you choose?

F: I think Beyonce is such a badass, amazing woman. She is fun, smart, thoughtful, spiritual, sensual and beautiful.

L:  When is the last time you laughed really hard?

F: We played Cards Against Humanity at dinner last night with multiple generations and there were some insanely sick things you had to say out loud. It was hilarious and awkward.

It was so much fun to be home and with each other this Christmas break. Here are some pictures from our time at home.
