This week’s photo round up comes courtesy of our good friend Dave in Denver, Colorado. Thank you, Dave, and a happy week to you all!

Connan Mockasin – Faking Jazz Together
Calloway – I Wanna Be Rich
George Harrison – I Got My Mind Set On You
I recently saw on a friend of mine’s Facebook page that he’d given this TED talk about his study of robotics & humanity. It is fascinating!

Noteworthy
It has been a while since I have done a noteworthy post, but since it’s been a busy week it felt appropriate.
It is important for me to let myself be quiet and to let myself share ideas.
When you feel you are lacking, it is actually really comforting to focus on what you do have.
Dancing is pretty much awesome.
Everything isn’t “the worst,” sometimes you are just tired.
Happy gut, happy life.
Sometimes you just need a drink.
Coast to Coast

F: What are you most looking forward to during the Spring?
L: I’m looking forward to not having the weather almost completely dictate all of my outfit choices.
F: Do you have any vacations planned this year?
L: I don’t have anything set but I certainly have some ideas!
F: What is your favorite song lately?
L: I’ve been binging on the song by James Vincent McMorrow that I posted the other day. I’ve also been reacquainting myself with this bad boy, after being reminded of it in the pilot episode of Transparent that you sent me.

F: What is your favorite accessory lately?
L: Pretty much the only accessories in my life these days:
F: Wanna share a little bit about LaurenFeighan.com?
L: Well, I hadn’t really planned on it but since you’re asking… Our brother David’s unique Christmas gift to each of us this past year was the purchase of our own domain names. I finally started playing around with my site over the weekend, creating a standard Tumblr page at this point. You can check it out here, if that’s of interest to you.

“To live on a day-to-day basis is insufficient for human beings; we need to transcend, transport, escape; we need meaning, understanding, and explanation; we need to see over-all patterns in our lives. We need hope, the sense of a future. And we need freedom (or, at least, the illusion of freedom) to get beyond ourselves, whether with telescopes and microscopes and our ever-burgeoning technology, or in states of mind that allow us to travel to other worlds, to rise above our immediate surroundings.
We may seek, too, a relaxing of inhibitions that makes it easier to bond with each other, or transports that make our consciousness of time and mortality easier to bear. We seek a holiday from our inner and outer restrictions, a more intense sense of the here and now, the beauty and value of the world we live in.”

One Word, Two Ways: Series
The New York MTA has an ongoing “Poetry in Motion” series on the subway that I quite enjoy. As to be expected, I like some of the poems better than others and feel genuinely excited when I’m on a train that has one of my favorites posted. Apparently the program rolls out two new poems each quarter. This one above feels particularly special because of its accompanied illustration of a flying white horse, which has special meaning in our family. Below are my other two favorites.
The Fine Line Between Love and Gratitude
May today serve as an opportunity to expand my heart through a genuine appreciation for what is.
“…appreciate again and again, freshly and naively, the basic goods of life with awe, pleasure, wonder, and even ecstasy, however stale these experiences may have become to others. This ability to freshly appreciate everyday experience [enables you] to derive a sense of pleasure, inspiration, and strength from even mundane happenings.” (via here)
Coast to Coast
L: What is something that has inspired you recently?
F: On Monday night, I went to LA Film School’s Q&A with all the writers nominated for this year’s Oscars. I think this was one of the best years in film and I have really come to fall in love with film as a medium (much to Albert’s delight). That night was incredibly inspirational to me because I have so many friends in LA that are writing or trying to make movies. I left that night feeling like we are all headed in the right direction.
L: What are your favorite pizza toppings?
F: Pizza, Pizza! My favorite pizza toppings are capers, artichoke hearts and mushrooms. Yum!
L: What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
F: The best concert that I have ever been to was Arcade Fire at the Larimer Lounge in Denver, Colorado. It was 2005 – almost a heartbeat before they completely and utterly blew up. There were about 60 people at the show and we were essentially in a small basement. The drummer played on the pipes and the guy at the door asked me and my friends if we were the opening band. It was the best concert I have ever been to, hands down.
L: If we could hang out this weekend, what would you want to do?
F: I don’t even know where to start. If we were in NYC, I would say that we would have to go to L’il Frankies or Sauce. We would have a wonderful meal with some wine. I would love to go dancing at Manhattan Inn until 4am. I would also like to go to MoMA or maybe even stay home at your place the entire weekend and do nothing at all but laugh (or cry).
L: Have you discovered anywhere new in L.A. lately?
F: I wouldn’t say that I discovered this, but I recently went to the Venice Pier for the first time and I was amazed. I had no idea that LA was in such a bay. When you are at the very tip of the pier, it feels like LA is wrapped around you in the most beautiful way. It was a whole new perspective on the beach that I have spent so much time on.
