Personal & Interior Style

When Albert and I moved to LA, we only brought a couple of suitcases. I found this little gem at a yard sale within the first week of our arrival. It only cost $20. I knew that I couldn’t keep it the way it was and was determined to make it fabulous. I am proud to say that I did!

Because our apartment is so white and bright, I knew we needed a bright color. That is why I chose Jamacian Blue! I followed this blogger’s advice the whole way through. Never underestimate the power of a project. I love my new little dresser!

I don’t want to sound like a greedykins (yes, that is a word in my head), but sometimes I just see something online and WANT it. Like, uh, all of these:

This ring was posted on Cupcakes and Cashmere and I have no idea where to get it. Do you?

No idea what brand these shoes are, but I WANT them.

Every time I buy flowers for my apartment I vow to make it a regular thing. It doesn’t usually stick but after reading this post on Cup of Jo about arranging flowers from the grocery store, I’ve re-upped my promise to myself. Our mother is masterful when it comes to putting together flower arrangements and it’s one of those things you really hope is genetic.  Luckily though, even absent a well done arrangement, flowers look good all on their own.

We are all kind of bombarded with information on the internet and it’s rare when we’re impressed by any of it.  But there have been a couple things that have caught my attention this week and I wanted to share them with you.  Some things that made me do a double take:

This photo series of Afghanistan has me in awe of the color contrasts that exist there.  It is a perfect blend of extreme beauty and intense pain.

This video is freaky deaky but the song is awesome:

I adore this ring:

I’m going to let you in on a little secret: we’re just not really on top of our game over here this week. In the last couple of days, Farrell and I have both sent each other our own version of a text that basically read, “So I’ve got nothing.” This has reminded me of this genius blog by Cory Arcangel called “Sorry I Haven’t Posted” which compiles apologies from around the web from bloggers who have lagged on their updates. Should I ever find myself even slightly stressing over this issue, three cheers to Mr. Arcangel for calling out what is a pretty ridiculous, yet clearly innate, human tendency.

Earlier this week I went to the funeral of a woman I knew through work.  At the service they read the Bible passage There is a time for everything.  It’s a pretty familiar passage I’ve heard many times in my life but it really struck me this time around.  With the onset of the holiday season, I have the feeling that the next couple of weeks are going to fly by.  I have lots of upcoming plans to reconnect and celebrate with many of you and it’s going to be great.  But in the time I have carved out for myself, I’m looking forward to relaxing and sitting with the things & feelings that don’t always receive their due time.

To accompany me:

Knit Slippers – My apartment is freezing.

Future Perfect: A Case For Progress In A Networked Age – I’m half way through and have started dragging my feet but think it is a very interesting read.

Wool Blanket – Again, freezing.

GIRLS Season I – I’m obsessed and just keep watching these episodes over and over.

Sunday Riely Juno Transformative Lipid Serum – Got myself a free sample of this high end indulgence and my skin is feeling great!

SCOTCH Nail Polish – So many fab seasonal colors in my collection that I rarely take the time to apply.

Heart Shaped Tea Cup and Saucer – Just thought this was sweet.
