I got back to New York on Sunday night and have been slowly reacquainting myself with life here, reluctantly easing my way back in for fear of moving away from all the sadness and beauty of the past week. Last night I sat down at my computer, unsure of what to post I mindlessly began tumbling through this site until I saw a link that simply said Listen. I clicked, this played:
Inspired & Inspiring
Suzanne Brewster Plumb
This past weekend we said goodbye to one of the most important people in our lives. Suz lived with us for many years while we were growing up and basically played the role of a third parent in our family. Suz was an ever-present source of love and support to each of us; we loved her more than I could ever begin to convey in words. She will be forever remembered, forever missed and forever a part of us.
Words at Night
Twenty-Six Palms
Still Life with Herring and an Oval Plate
As I’ve mentioned, I’ve been taking an oil painting class this summer (my first ever painting class). For our first assignment we picked a painting out of an art book to try to replicate. I opened a book of Chaim Soutine’s work to this page and went with it. I’ve been taking pictures each week to show this great piece come to life! 🙂
Ta-da! I actually wanted to keep working on it a little more but that might not happen for some time, if at all. So in the meantime I’ve nestled my five little fish in my bookshelf to keep me company at home.
Example of Success
“Like when I wake up at 7am to go to yoga I’m so proud of myself I talk about it all day and in the evening I get drunk just to celebrate.” –Garance Doré
My Message to You
“People need to be encouraged. People need to be reminded of how wonderful they are. People need to be believed in—told that they are brave and smart and capable of accomplishing all the dreams they dream and more. Remind each other of this.”
-Stacey Jean Speer
If we know each other, know that you inspire me in some way. If we don’t, I’m certain you would if we did.
Take it away, Bob.
The Two Most Beautiful Words
Real Life
Documentaries are by far my favorite genre of movie. In the past couple of months, I have seen some that are worth noting.
180 Degrees South
This movie is inspiring and informative at the same time. This was what inspired Albert and I to start surfing.
Storm Surfers
This is a quick 4 episode series of two surfers who chase the swells of big storms in Australia. It’s pretty intense.
Tiny
This dude builds a tiny house himself and challenges us to think about our values and goals in life at the same time.
Anthony Bourdain – Parts Unknown
These episodes are totally addicting. They are for foodies, historians and anyone with a travel bug. Seeing Gaza was one of my favorite unknown parts.
112 Weddings
This documentary looks inside 112 marriages and how they are now compared to their wedding days. It’s pretty scary!
Get Moving
It’s been a while since my love affair with yoga took a pause. I used to practice almost every day for an hour and half. I ended up stopping because I didn’t see my body changing and I felt that I wanted a more upbeat workout. Well, I am back. I have been waking up every morning and unrolling my yoga mat. I don’t go crazy or anything. I just stretch. I get my body moving and I take a lot of deep breaths. Some mornings I can barely even get half way to touching my toes. Other times, I feel like a golden god(dess) doing poses left and right (no pun intended!). Bottom line – it feels so awesome to start your day that way. Try it out. Put a yoga mat next to your bed and first thing in the morning do a couple minutes of stretching and see how you feel.
